Genre Research: The Call
For our research me and my partner chose the same 3 movies. We started off with The call. It is a thriller that came out in 2013. The main character is a 911 operator named Jordan. She is tasked with aiding in saving people lives. On a specific day she receives a call from a specific girl who is being kidnapped, with 911 on the way Jordan stays on the phone to help the victim stay as safe as possible. At some point the operator makes a mistake and puts the girls life in jeopardy. After a failed attempt to save her life Jordan is now working a new position where she cant make a mistake again. When another call gets presented in front of her she is faced with the same task. To help save another kidnapped girl. This time can she successfully do it? Both this film and our movie share the same crime idea. Jordan helps with solving crime and in our film we end up being involved in the crime. Jordan in the movie makes mistakes in the movie that put other people in jeopardy, unintentionally. The mother in our film makes mistakes of letting her bestfriend be her godmother not knowing that it would cost her life. What I like about this film is the fact that Jordan went beyond her job to help save the second girl's life. She goes beyond just being an operator, part of this could be her guilt in failing the first girl, nd maybe she wants to make sure she gets it right. For example for the second victim she was the one to rescue her from the kidnaper, not any other police officer, but the operator went out of her way to make sure this girl was saved. The things that I didn't like was the fact that she irresponsibly put the first girl's life at risk. Jordan was on the phone with the first victim and instructed her to find a hiding spot under the bed, the victim accidental hung the phone, and Jordan called her back. I believe this was a huge mistake because when the operator called her back this revealed the victims location to the kidnapper nd got her killed. Being trained for this job I'm sure Jordan knew that this wasn't safe.
