Creative Critical Reflection

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
Over these past 3 filming projects that I have done, I have had many different encounters with the way I've used my conventions. The first project I used very little, especially since I had barely any clue on what they were. The second time I was able to create a commercial, and base off of my audience, and what they would want to see. This time, I used very little conventions with my partner. We made our music video, to a pop song, and it was very contradictory, because the upbeat and happy vibe of the song, was completely opposite from the concept. In Michael Jackson's music video to Black and White, he was able to mesh both of the sides together, while having POC's in his video, there were creative dances and costumes to match the pop theme.  In our music video, we tried to tie-in the pop theme with the upbeat and happiness in our music video, we weren't sad or gloomy, despite he subject, we wanted to show the message of unity, in a fun and light hearted way. Despite the ack of conventions, I believe we made it up with our social concept. Our music video targeted everyone who listens, but it was specifically meant to confront racial injustice, it supports black people like myself, and educate everyone else, who doesn't seem to think were equal. Just as it was back then, there have been many injustices among black people, it seems as though history seems to repeat itself, and incurrent times, people of my color are targeted just because they are a different hade. I think its important to spread the message that black lives matter, in person, on social media, and even in school, there's no place where this is inappropriate. I think in our music video, we wanted our concept to stand out way more.

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
The music video is very short and to the point. I feel like our audience would understand and relate to, interracial friendships, and the struggle that comes with being in one. I feel as though its becoming more accepted now and days to be friends with, and be in a relationship, with someone that is a different race as you, but for just as many positive and accepting people there are in he world, there is just as many non acceptable and judgmental people the are. We hope and feel as though our audience could understand and connect with us on that level. Our music video would be displayed through anything with a screen, TV's , phones, tablets,, etc.). Michael's song was displayed through anything and everything, radios, speakers , and anything with an electronic speaker.

3. How did your production skills develop through this project?
I think with this project, the filming was the best I've ever done. I explain time and time again that media is new to me, but I feel like the more projects we do there isn't much for me to drastically change. This was a 30 second filming project, but this time, I had to adapt to doing my project with a partner. I feel like when we filmed, it was quick and easy, although we mad a couple of mess ups, I still feel like in the end we were able to make a well put together music video. My production skills, were slightly improved, but I feel as though, I need more projects that push me further to do more.

4. How did you integrate technologies-software, hardware, and online- in this project?
For our project, we used Michael Jackson music video, to get an understanding of the concept and what we wanted to do. My partner suggested an editing app we have never used before, and I think that I will try to incorporate it into my future projects, because it worked really well. I uploaded the music video to my YouTube channel, just like I did for the las project. I had complications with transferring it to blogger, because it  didn't seem to want to load, but that seems to be a reoccurring theme with filming projects. We used our phones to film, so we also used the camera app, I think it filmed our video with nice quality as well.
