Planning Storyboard for Music Video

Image
For the storyboard, my partner and I came up with 2 separate halves of the storyboard and put them together below. Just as in my last storyboard, I am a terrible drawer, but I did try my hardest on my drawings. I drew the top half, my partner drew the bottom half. I will start by explaining that we want to start our commercial off with us being in the park and then moving to my partner,  Fatima's house. We establish the setting of our first location, in the story board, being the park. I also did a drawing of the next part of our music video, us having a picnic at the park. We have decided to incorporate props with the idea by having a picnic setup, with the blanket and basket, and well even be eating food/using it as a prop. After we have our picnic we will do the other half of our music video in another location. I We will be filming ourselves heading to the other location, walking and talking like normal friends do. At my partners house we will start our other half of the music ...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
For the title of our music video we have decided to keep it as the original song name , Black or White. We chose this because our concept of the video matches the song very well, so we thought that it shouldn't be changed. For our location we decided to go to a park. We want to have like this cliché moment were were able to play together, kind of like kids when they were younger. This leads into the props, because we don't have anything specific we need for the music video. If we were to use anything in the park, for example sitting on a bench, or using their slide, etc.) that would be considered a prop, so we are keeping an open mind for that. For our idea, we want it to be a realistic, modern day relationship between to friends, that is why we have decided not to use any costumes either. At first my partner had an idea to contribute by saying that maybe we should dress up like the people in the 90's, because that's when the song was made. At first was open minded to ...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
The song that we chose was Black or White by Michael Jackson Jackson stated that he wrote this song to share his experiences of being a black man in today’s society. Also his experiences with racism in the industry and real world. He knew that music was a great way to express yourself. That’s why he wrote a whole song dedicated to the issue, so the message could be easily heard. His plan worked and that song was on the top charts. The song stayed on the charts for seven weeks and now is one of Jackson’s most popular songs. This song leads to many controversies because of its meaning. Back then and still today people are being judged and discriminated against for the color of their skin equality has not been achieved and we don’t know when it will be. Jackson song not only has a great meaning but was also lyrically amazing. Conventions: The genre of the song is pop. Being considered the king of pop, Michaels music videos have become the backbone of pop. Some common conventions you ...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
For the music video I am working such with a fellow friend named Fatima Faya. I chose to work with her because we have been friends for a while, and I have actually been looking to having this class with her so we can do projects together. She is a hard worker and I know that we can get this project done in a nice effective and productive manner. We do seem to contrast in the music category, I am a huge fan of Rap, and she enjoys alternative. She also lives 5 minutes away from me so I know that meeting up with her wont be an issue. For the music video we are choosing to do Black or White by Michael Jackson. We chose this song, because we have diffrent contrast in music taste, but we equally love old music. This was the best way for us to compromise on on choice. We also chose this song because of its significant meaning. Michael's song is about racism and that it doesn't matter  where you're from or what you're skin color is, because were all equal. Its crazy that this...

Critical Reflections Questions

Image
   1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?  In my media class we did a filming project, and we were presented with these same reflection questions. The first time I didn’t use a lot of conventions, because I didn’t really know a lot about them. In my commercial I used way more, to connect to the audience. I based my scenes off of things I know people watching would understand, such as using Crocs for productivity like exercise. I still feel like I could have edited better to fit my audience. It connect to social groups who are looking for comfortable wear while still wanting to be active and live their day-to day lives.       2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?   My audience is directed towards on the go moms, athletes, and students. People who want to live their days normally and comfortably, a kid who wants to survive...

Crocs commercial

Image
I have completed my first filming project for Cambridge. The experience was interesting, and I'm glad that of the first one it wasn't too long or hard. I will say that I wish I was more creative with my project. I've never taken a media class before nor am I involved in media heavily, so I'm not as advanced as I would like to be. I do hope to progress throughout the other projects well have throughout the year, because I am a little disappointed with my work so far. The actual process of filming and coming up with ideas isn't too complicated. I feel like filming is the easiest part for me, because one my biggest strengths sis my speaking, which is why I did voiceovers instead text. If I come up with a plan for the concept, filing is really easy and quick for me, like it was with this project. I believe it took me about 10 min to get the clips. The problem for me came with the editing, I feel like I put things together that I know is best for me, even though it ...

Crocs Editing Blog

Image
Today I went through the process of editing my crocs commercial today. To start off, I added in my voiceovers. In my previous blog I mentioned that I pre filmed my voiceovers, so I would know how long Each clip in my commercial would be. I recorded my voice overs on a voice memo app, and when I edited the commercial, I just added each voiceover to the clip it belonged to. I filmed on my phone, and transferred the clips to my computer to edit. I edit on iMovie, because it works best for me. In the editing process, I started off by putting my clips all together in one video. I then started editing by adding text in the beginning, to establish the object in which I was filming. Afterwards I made sure that the voiceovers fit each clip perfectly, and cut out anything that was a little lengthy, or choppy. I added dialogue to the last clip, where I showed the retail price of the shoes, and any detail that would be needed if someone were to actually purchase of shoes. Lastly I add...

Crocs Filming Blog

Image
I filmed my commercial for my Crocs project today and I had many encounters throughout my filming process. Before I started filming I wrote a script, and even though I plan on doing voice overs,  in the editing process, I wanted to know how long I should have filmed each clip for.  To start off for my first scene, I wasn’t able to film in one of my locations, the grocery store. After I sat and thought for a while I wanted to come up with an alternative that would give the same productive vibe as going to to the grocery store and I decided to do an exercise. In one of my previous blogs I mentioned that Crocs should not be used for strenuous tasks on the feet.  They could however work effectively for lifting weights or doing arm work. So that's what I did, I filmed some short arm workouts that could be done in Crocs. The good part about this alternative option is that it shows how I could do something productive but comfortably.  A good...
