Title Research: Outbreak

Image
The starting scene begins with a bomb exploding. Next, calm the actors. All the names are in the middle of the scene and if you’re only a few seconds after each other. Unlike other movies, the names of the actors are prioritized over the name of the producers. Then, the main title is revealed. The title is large and appears and with a fade transition. The connotation of these images is very fast. There are a lot of things happening in the background and the titles are moving rapidly. It’s very fast-paced which fits well with the thriller genre. It keeps you on your toes. The background transitions from the battlefield to a laboratory. Making the audience confused but also a treat. At the bottom of the screen, they display definitions of biological levels. The camera angles used are following the characters around and filmed in low angles. After they begin to show the casting team and costume team. Followed by the editors and producers. The background still seems to be in the labor...

Title Research: Panic Room

Image
The first scene opens up with Columbia pictures, the production company of the movie which seems to be owned by Sony. The first title displayed is Columbia again. After it shows the name of producers and main people involved with the movie. After comes the title of the movie, which is shown a little longer than the rest. The sound also got louder when it was displayed on the screen. The connotations that the images carry give the audience a sense of what the movie will be about. The background was what seems to be a city. These large titles gave a 3-D feel as well as an overwhelming sense. Since the titles were placed above the large buildings it gave a sense of power. As well as intensity, the music kept getting louder and louder as it went on. The strategies really made it full of mystery. The titles added to the intensity. Almost all the camera angles were shot from a high point of view. Looking down at the people below the buildings. The transitions were clean and the names o...

Title Research: Buried

Image
The first scene starts with the production company, which is Versus Entertainment. They then show the other companies that are associated with the production. Showing the director and producer and then the main actor. During the entire scene the sequence kept going down. Since the title is called Buried. They make it so the words keep sinking. The images really have a nice connotation because it ties in with the title. The music gets louder and louder as the words begin to appear showing the rest of the cast. They use transitions to make the letters fade in. The background is just dirt as it gets deeper and deeper into the ground. The strategies used for the target audience are to keep them on their toes. They continue to show the producers and editing. After the background becomes fully pitch black and the music speeds up. The technology used is creative and unique. The technology use is creative and unique. Instead of the traditional opening scene, they make cool background and use c...

Title Research: Captain America the Winter Soldier

Image
In the opening sequence it includes introductions to the writers and cast. The titles include the characters in the movie, the screenplay writes, executive producers, etc.). It starts off simple, and tries not to take too much attention away from the actual clips. The opening sequence takes on the thee and characteristic's of the movie. The stars and stripes in the background, and characters moving around, it gives a more simplistic view of the movie. In the opening sequence, you can almost see the heroes battling it out just like they will in the actual movie. These images give a preview of what to expect in the movie. You see the Winter Soldier who is going to be the Antagonist. Fighting against the other side of what seems to be the heroes, Captain America, Black Widow, Falcon. The gives a simple yet descriptive intro to the movie. I think it shows how thrilling the movie is going to be. It keeps the viewers on their seat wondering what's going to happen. As it pertains to the...

Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
While on this website we searched for feature films. The website offered a collection of Hollywood’s most indigenous main titles created. It was really exciting reading about how all these titles came to be. Also, all the work that went behind them all. It goes to show how the production of movies is so detailed and intricate. Companies plan out everything to make sure it’s perfect. To get some more inspiration we looked at where they showed student projects. We really enjoyed seeing them and couldn’t believe students were the ones who made them. Really makes you want to work harder to make a really good title sequence for our final task. Like mentioned, our goal is to make a title sequence that really fits well with our concepts.                         Forget the Film, Watch the Titles!

Genre Research: 47 Meters Down

Image
For our final film me and my partner chose to do a shark movie named 47 meters down. This thriller was made in 2017and 2 sisters named Kate and Lisa made an attempt to go on a vacation to México and have fun experiences. In their attempt to have fun Lisa on of the sisters is nervous about the activities, because it was such a sketchy place. They wanted to do a shark dive, but that failed terribly when they're cage broke off of the boat and they landed at the bottom of the water stranded. Another major issue is they're running on limited amounts of oxygen. With not a lot of survival time the boatmen seek for rescue while the 2 sisters fight for survival throughout a treacherous time. They battle sharks and in a plot twist, hallucinate most of their time down there. With only one of the sisters making it to the end, not everything happened the way they pictured it. The connection between the two films is our element of surprise. The mother in out final task had no idea her best f...

Genre Research: Get Out

Image
Our second movie choice was Get Out, a film produced in 2017. This thriller movie was based on the idea of racism. Its starts off with an interracial couple named Chris and Rose who are the meet the parents stage. Chris agrees to meet Roses' parents upstate, but is initially hesitant because he is the first black guy she has ever dated. After arriving to Chris notices small details that are out of place. Roses' large family are accompanied by maids and butlers and servants due to them having such wealth. he only issue is that every single one of these workers just so happen to be black. These workers are arranged in the house almost too perfectly, never without a smile, and do everything as their told down to the T. After Chris is at the house long enough he realizes one too many things, but it may be too late for him. Rose reveals her plan that he was just a pawn to become her next family's slave, and with her fathers help, he gets transferred to the sunken place. In this ...

Genre Research: The Call

Image
For our research me and my partner chose the same 3 movies. We started off with The call. It is a thriller that came out in 2013. The main character is a 911 operator named Jordan. She is tasked with aiding in saving people lives. On a specific day she receives a call from a specific girl who is being kidnapped, with 911 on the way Jordan stays on the phone to help the victim stay as safe as possible. At some point the operator makes a mistake and puts the girls life in jeopardy. After a failed attempt to save her life Jordan is now working a new position where she cant make a mistake again. When another call gets presented in front of her she is faced with the same task. To help save another kidnapped girl. This time can she successfully do it? Both this film and our movie share the same crime idea. Jordan helps with solving crime and in our film we end up being involved in the crime. Jordan in the movie makes mistakes in the movie that put other people in jeopardy, unintentional...

Genre Decision Blog

Image
After researching action, drama and thriller movies, my partner and I decided on using thriller for our genre. When it came to action movies it seems as though it requires more intensity and fight scenes. Action movies also usually have more props and makeup. It also includes lots of stunt work and special effects. With our idea it doesn't have those same characteristics. Nor does our idea fit the concept. When It came to the drama category, it could have been close, but there just isn't as much sentiment, but instead evil and secrecy. Drama is a bit less darker than thriller. Drama is also more light hearted than thriller. Thriller is involved with the mystery behind certain things. As it pertains to our movie, the death of the mother and how it came to be. A lot of questions will be raised, such as why, what ,and how? The pitch of our movie is that a mother tries to make her bestfriend a godmother but it all backfires in her demise. We want the audience to be on the edge and...

Genre Research: Thriller & Drama

Image
Thriller:  1. Common types of camera angles found in thriller movies are high angles, which are often used to to make figure look powerless. There also camera movements such as tilted angles that add tension to the scenes.  2. The most common use of camera lighting in thriller movies is low-key lighting, this adds to the horror and theme of the movie.  3. Thriller movies mostly use parallel editing to add onto the suspense and tension in a scene.  4. Types of thriller movies are 47 Meters Down, the Silence Of the Lambs, and Parasite. One of my favorite thriller movies is Get Out.  5. The most common sound found in thriller movies are dark and eerie sounds, this also builds up suspense and tension in these movies. There can also be non diegetic sound added in the background to certain scenes. For example distant animal noises in  forest, strange noises in a house, etc.). 6.  Elements that I like in thriller movies are the suspense. I like to be s...

Genre Research: Action

Image
For my PowerPoint project I chose the action film genre. I chose this genre because this area is my favorite type of film. I based my project off of a set of guidelines my teachers wanted us to follow. In the PowerPoint I started with common lighting that can be found in action films. I added examples next to them. I listed high key lighting, low-key lighting, and three-point lighting. I then talked about camera angles that were often found in action movies. Normal angle shots, as well as high and low camera angles. Afterwards I listed examples of common camera movements, but I used YouTube links in my PowerPoint for examples. I then talked about common Mis-En-Scenes found in action movies. I listed props makeup and costume. There are a lot of these used in action movies, and one that I can really think of are superhero movies. After I talked about the common features of action movies. There are lots of physical action, fights, sometimes chases and explosions, and special effects mixed...

Our Pitch

Image
Pitch #1: A couple fosters a child only for the financial benefits they murder the child and try to get away with it.  Pitch #2: A mother tries to make her best-friend a godmother, but it all backfires in her demise.  My partner came up with the idea for the first pitch, but I came up with the idea for the second one. We wanted our idea to have suspense, because we feel that’s the most interesting. The ideas are very realistic and we felt as though they would be easy to film. I also have a little brother who would play a critical role in either pitch. The first pitch was a close chose, but we ultimately decided to go with the second one. A couple of issues were the fact that with adopted parents it was going to be a male and female role. We don’t have access to a male who is willing to be in our videos. With our film, we wanted our concepts to be as original as possible. Me and partner felt as though the second pitch was a little bit more creative than the first one. When it c...

Starting The Final Task

Image
My name is Suzie Louis, I’m in 11th grade and I'm 16. I think it’s crazy because as I’m reintroducing myself I remember my first blog. As I was reading it over I was talking about how much I was looking forward to for the rest of 2020. It’s already February of 2021 and I feel like time has flown by so fast.  I have been in my Aice Media Studies studies class for a little over half a year and I have learned a lot so far. I’ve done a lot of filming projects to advance my knowledge in the media film. My favorite lesson so far has been about Audiences and Institutions. We didn’t do a film for it, but it was the most interesting to write about, and we even got to do a practice essay for the Cambridge exam we will be taking at the end of the year. It is time to start our final project, for the end of the year. It’s going to be a long drawn out process to ensure that this project is going to the best possible. For my final project I am choosing to work with Fatima F. She is in the s...
